The African proverb “it takes a village to raise a child” has always rung true to me. It gives parents the support they need to nurture and teach their children. It gives children the comfort they need, knowing there are many people who love them and care about their well-being. And it tells all of us that we are in this together.
So what if we go beyond raising a child and take this idea into the various stages of our lives. Isn’t it true that all of us, yourself included, would benefit from being part of a strong, caring village? Being among people who know and believe in you is good for your heart and soul.
Consider for a moment that you have an internal village…many different aspects coming together to form this amazing Being that is you. There is so much insight and wisdom to share! It’s amazing what you can learn about yourself and how deeply you can heal by hearing what they have to say.
Turning outward, you have access to endless experiences and wisdom through the people in your life. Listening to their stories, watching what they do and seeing how you’re mirrored in them helps you grow. You can literally change your life just by being open, curious and receptive to those who cross your path.
Even nature can be seen as a member of your village. It is more than the stage upon which your life unfolds. The natural world is a profound teacher, healer and friend. It is a constant reminder of your strength, fluidity and beauty.
Rest easy in the truth that you are deeply connected in this life. There are arms to support you, hearts that love you and spirits who are blessed to walk this path with you.
