I was looking through TED Talks to see what new ideas have been added and in doing so, came across an old one. I re-watched Jill Bolte Taylor’s talk, My Stroke of Insight, and was as fascinated by it now as when I watched it years ago.
If you haven’t seen it, she is a neuro-anatomist who experienced a severe hemorrhage in the left hemisphere of her brain in 1996. Given her professional background, she had a deep awareness of what was happening, and her talk is a powerful account of what she went through that day.
Dr Jill lost her language, memories and ability to think about the future. But what she gained was an entirely new perspective on life. She is often asked how people can strengthen and rejuvenate their neural circuits to improve their sense of inner joy and innocence.
Her answer is always the same “bring your mind to the present moment. Be willing to really commit yourself to this moment and the beauty of being in the present moment. Celebrate your life…celebrate and find gratitude.”
She says, “I believe that the more time we spend choosing to run the deep inner peace circuitry of our right hemispheres, the more peace we will project into the world, and the more peaceful our planet will be.”
