Empathy, in its simplest form, is awareness of the feelings and emotions of other people. It offers us a link between ourselves and others, because it is how we as individuals understand what others are experiencing as if we were feeling it ourselves.
Empathy allows us to create bonds of trust, it gives us insights into what others may be feeling or thinking; it helps us understand how or why others are reacting to situations the way they do, it sharpens our ‘people acumen’ and it informs our decisions.
This deep understanding creates connections between people, bringing us closer together. It helps to forge friendships and grow love. It makes us feel cared for and lets us know that we are not alone.
The human ability to relate to another person’s feelings and to even act on it is what brings us together and makes our world a much nicer place to live. Through empathy, we understand each other’s experiences and are more prone to help each other.
Empathy is the very fabric of relatedness and therefore the very fabric of our ability to live in communication with Life itself. When we consciously bring empathy in service to community, we ultimately create greater trust and understanding for everyone.
