Motherhood is hard! There are crying kids, dirty diapers, sleep deprivation, food preparation, laundry, and so much more. Taking care of little people who don’t have the capacity to really appreciate what’s being given is not for the fainthearted.
And most will mothers agree…it doesn’t necessarily end when they grow up. The job description changes but as my mom always says, “once a mother always a mother.”
Motherhood is also extraordinarily meaningful and rewarding. It is incredibly humbling to be responsible to another human being and know that he or she is studying how to be a grown up by watching you. Being a mom is one of the most important jobs in this world; it calls forward the very best of who you are.
Not everyone is a mother…but everyone has a mother. And while it is very easy to focus on her flaws – remembering every moment she fell down, disappointed, or made colossal mistakes – it is important to remember that without her you wouldn’t be here.
Take this time to honour the woman who gave birth to you as well as all the other women who loved, nurtured and helped you grow into the beautiful and amazing person you are today. This Sunday, stop for a few moments and hold your mother’s heart in yours. Thank her for giving you life…and bless her on her journey.
