Imagine that you have an illness that prevents you from working, hanging out with your friends, going to church, shopping, talking on a phone or using a computer, or even hugging your mother. Now imagine that the medical community has no idea how to help you; not even the hospital is a safe place for you.
That is only a small taste of what life was like for Annie Hopper in 2005.
Symptoms of illness started when Annie was living in Kelowna working as a busy counselor, newspaper columnist and talk show guest as an expert in emotional wellness. Mysterious symptoms like unexplainable insomnia, headaches, body aches and pains, chronic exhaustion and an increasing list of sensitivities ensued.
After almost four years of suffering that eventually led to homelessness, Annie deduced that a toxic brain trauma was most likely at the root of her suffering.
Through a combination of her already developed skill set, along with integrating knowledge and key concepts about neuroplasticity, Annie went on to creatively rewire the neural circuits in her brain that had been altered due to toxic trauma, and alleviated the symptoms of her illness.
Annie quickly moved her focus to assist others who were still suffering.
In 2008, Hopper founded The Dynamic Neural Retraining System, a drug-free, neuroplasticity-based healing approach to rewire chronic illness disease patterns in the brain – as seen in Chemical Sensitivities, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Pain, Anxiety and many other chronic illnesses.
Annie is also the author of Wired for Healing; Remapping the Brain to Recover from Chronic and Mysterious Illnesses. Her speaking engagements include the Canadian Brain Injury Association, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
